Francis Ali and I ready to go for a ride

Picture
It is nearly a year since Francis became the newest member of my family, - "The Big little brother".  Ali and I Love him so much, it is like he has been around forever.  From the strong, powerful (and Defensive) racehorse.  Who knew how to look after himself, and had many protective layers making sure he was safe.  To the soft hearted generous guy who expresses his emotions as largely as his stature.  Watching him watching us and seeing him "come out of his shell" has been wonderful.  All the new things he has got to do, from trail riding to jumping and the process of him gaining confidence and believing in himself, as well as being able to trust that we are his family and love him even when he isn't totally lovable has let him let us in.

He loves to play Indian Pony and when we go trail riding he is Trail Boss and loves to track other horses on the trail nose down huffing at their foot prints.  We encountered a Snapping Turtle on one ride that caused a loud snort and him running backwards to a safe distance away, letting his BFF Cheyenne go first and get snapped at before him.

The next part of our journey was to get from Iowa to Hot Springs Arkansas, a friend had very kindly offered to ship us in her beautiful brand new trailer.  We were to leave in the evening and travel all night. BUT, Francis had other ideas, he didn't think it would be a good idea to travel in the dark (I wasn't too sure myself) he was adamant and wouldn't load. We put him back in his stall and waited until morning he still wasn't sure but eventually loaded as it was getting daylight.

The best view in the world is between a horses ears.

I am now lucky enough to have my own set of ears to look between.  Hie name is Francis Henry, he is a seven year old thoroughbred who has been racing at Canterbury Park in Minnesota.  He had a special place in the heart of his trainer Justin  Mckinley, who took very good care of him and wanted to make sure he had the chance of another career and a happy life after his retirement from racing.

I met them both this summer and Francis received Ortho-Bionomy sessions.  I fell for Francis :) He has a very special energy about him, but never dreamy that I would get a call after the end of the race-meet, from Justin saynig he felt Francis should retire and would I like him? would I!!!!
I would like to share Francis and my journey together with everyone as we become a team and with an Ortho-Bionomy feeling move forward together.............

The first time I rode him. With borrowed tack, he was the perfect gentleman, we were at Prairie meadows racetrack in Iowa, where I was working.
